Your Role
As the Embedded Systems Engineer at Shrooly, your responsibilities will span various areas, from hands-on engineering to project management, ensuring product stability and operational efficiency.
- Testfarm Engineering Oversight: Develop KPIs to track system uptime and health to ensure Shroolys are available continuously for mushroom cultivation tests. Develop and maintain software running on our Testfarm. Create and execute a sensor calibration plan to ensure accurate readings across devices. Visualize sensor data that support cultivation experiments. Identify and implement improvements to testfarm equipment and software.
- Troubleshooting & Debugging: Serve as the primary technical contact for the CX team to resolve complex technical issues. Perform root cause analyses for critical errors and implement long-term solutions.
- Collaboration with Engineering Partners: Collaborate with external software development partners on DevOps and App development projects (iOS & Android) to ensure alignment with business objectives. Coordinate with firmware and PCB development partners and contractors. Work with manufacturing partners to implement and oversee hardware changes in alignment with product specifications.
- Tech Stack Management: Develop and maintain a scalable, efficient tech stack that supports Shrooly’s business goals. Monitor and optimize software, cloud, and infrastructure costs.
- Product Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate product stability and security risks. Establish and maintain a risk-tracking system, developing proactive countermeasures to ensure product reliability.
- Team Growth & Hiring: As Shrooly grows, support our efforts to build a high-performing engineering team by finding contractors or hiring new colleagues.
Key Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in IoT, including at least 1 year at a hardware startup
- Multidisciplinary engineering knowledge with strong Computer Science and Electrical Engineering fundamentals
- Bluetooth or WiFi development experience
- Solid C, Python knowledge
- Familiarity with popular software development tools (git, etc.) and version control tools (e.g., Git, GitHub Actions)
- In-depth knowledge of computer networking
- Experience with Raspberry Pi

- Passion for mushrooms!
- Cloud infrastructure management
- Experience with native iOS & Android app development
- Familiarity with Espressif ESP-IDF
- Consumer Electronics or IoT experience
- Prototyping experience
